Trying Goat Meat Today

I've heard somewhere that goat meat is lower in B6, than beef.  I checked out a few sites on goat meat, http://www.naturalark.com/chevon.html and http://www.calorie-counter.net/meat-calories/goats-meat.htm and that looked to be the case.

I went to Herbs Meats (a local specialty store) yesterday, pleaded ignorance, and the butcher suggested I try cooking a goat shoulder cut, in a crock-pot, with some water, on the low setting, for 10 or so hours.  Ate it a half hour ago...it tasted surprisingly good!  I had cooked it overnite, as suggested, with zero spices.  Added celtic salt as I ate it though.

The verdic is still out on whether goat will work for me.  I've read that some people, with B6 toxicity, have to not just watch their B6, but also their B1 and B3.   I haven't looked at that angle yet.

It's day #26, and I'm so tired of starving!

  1. Hi
I took have b6 toxicity my symptoms:-
    Pain in my joints
    Vision problems
    weight loss 16kg
edema in legs, feet and ankles.
swollen hands and fingers cant make a fist
Can get a suntan in 15 minutes.
    some skin rashes
I went on the elimination diet, and all my edema went away in two days, no gluten, no diary. I did drink wine too, but that made the swelling and pain to much. I looked into this and b6 makes around with your histemine levels (wiki pedia) your body becomes allergic or more sensitive to sugar, wheat, dairy and its the sulphurs in the wine.
It took 3 months to find out I had b6, docotors thought I had some sort of auto immune diseases, I became bed ridden. Once I went organic I have been better, however I didnt not take any b6 vitamins?? so not sure what has caused mine. I did have aneima which I have fixed. I think it could be this and fortified foods we have a lot in Australia. I have just had a second blood test.and hoping my results show a large decrease. If not I have heard there is a disease that the Irish and scottish get that prevents the break down of b6 in p5p I will check into that if I have too.

  5. One thing to note is that the B vitamins are interrelated and deficiency in one could lead to higher elevations in the other. Low B2 could lead to accumulation of unprocessed B6 in the blood leading to toxicity. B2 helps break down B6 so the cells can absorb it.
